Lost: The End

Firstly, here be spoilers. If you have not seen the Lost finale, then go watch it and then read this. Now that we have that of the way, on to the episode.

The first time, I saw Lost was quite by accident, now while I had vaguely heard about the show online, I hadn't seen. So one Saturday, I channel hopping, and stumble upon the pilot, where Jack wakes up in the jungle, and then stumbles onto the beach, where Oceanic Flight 815 has crashed. What happens next is Jack running through the chaos helping people, and from then I was hooked. Lucky for me, I caught a repeat, and the next episode was shown early the next week. The pilot was really impressive, it kicked off the mysteries, and introduced us to our cast of characters.

So after 6 years, here we are at end of this ride and basically Wow. Loved the ending. IMHO, the ending did everything it needed to do. Most of the question have been answered already. We already found out what the Island was in earlier episodes, albeit we got an explanation similar to Yoda explanation of the force in Empire Strikes Back, which I much prefer to the bloody midocolrans. We also found out about the whispers, Richard Alperts origins, Jacobs and MIB's origins and so. What we were left with in the end, was the Survivors of Oceanic 815, and some of the people they met along the way.

So, the finale, once again splits its time between the Island, and the sideways pocket verse. Jack is now the new Jacob, and has to stop MIB. who becomes mortal after Desmond uncorks the heart of the Island, and he become immortal, hence making it possible for MIB to die. The fight between the 2 is spectacular, if a bit short, but I think it more than did the job. We then have Jack, enter into the heart of the Island, and put everything right by saving Desmond, and fixing the heart, after appointing Hurley the new protector. So Jack sacrifices himself to save the Island.

We also, find out what the sideway verse is, it was created by our heroes presumably by the atom bomb they detonated last season, which created a sort of after life waiting room or limbo of sorts, a place as Christian Shepherd explained that they created together, so they could find each other again, and move on. So, in a unique twist the Island was real after all, the side ways verse was the limbo. So we finally get to see everyone in the sideways verse remember there true selves. Sayid is reunited with Shannon, Jack with Kate, Sawyer with Juliet (which was the most poignant of the lot) and so. They all get together at a weird multi faith church, which had Islamic, Christian, Hindu, Taoist, Jewish and probably a bunch of other Religions I didn't recognize. So the side ways verse, was one big epilogue where our heroes get there act together before moving, to heaven, or live in the alternate universe. Its very much open to interpretation. Basically, its a place outside of time, so when they died, doesn't matter, as some died long before some, and others a long time after, and this is alluded to when Hurley talks to Ben (who stays out side the multi-faith Church as he is not ready to move one). about Ben was a good Number 2, and vice versa.

After all this, Jack appears out side of the heart of the Island, presumably sent there after fixing things. We then get the amazing final scene of Jack staggering to the spot, where we first see him in the pilot, where Vincent shows up, and goes to Jack (to comfort him in his final moments) who then see's Kate and co escape the Island via the Ajira plane, where he smiles before he closes his eyes, after sacrificing himself to save the Island and basically fix everything. The last moments were the perfect way to end the show, right where we started.

Now, what happened is open to interpretation, and this is just mine, and I didn't even address everything in the episode. Still, to each there own, I guess.

Personally, the finale, did everything it needed to do, and gave a great ending to one of the best all time tv shows.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Movie)

Based loosely of the video game of the same name. The Prince of Persia, follows Prince Dastan, who was rescued by the Persian King from the gutter to become his adopted son, and hence the titular Prince.

The movie proves to be a superior example of the swords and sorcery epic, as compared to the recent Clash of the Titans remake. The film feels suitably epic, and I did care about the characters. While, a lot of things were pretty predictable, and there wasn't a lot in there that was original, but the execution of the story was top notch. Overall, this was very enjoyable, and if you like this kind if film, it is well worth seeing. I personally rather liked it.

Iron Man 2

Tony Stark returns to the big screen, and brings along some new friends in the shape of the the lovely Black Widow (Scarlet Johansen), and War Machine (Don Cheadle).

I don't want to give much away, but the 2nd film expands on everything that made the first one so great, and even alludes just a little bit to the classic Demon in a Bottle story from the comics.

Well worth seeing!!!

Robin Hood (2010)

Director Ridley Scott reunites, with Russel Crowe, for another Robin Hood film. This films servers as a origin story for Robin, as we get to see how he becomes the legend. The movie also proves to be strangely topical, due rising taxes to pay for foreign aggressive wars in the Middle East. The film reflects on people rights, and is has a great resonance, with all the bank bail outs, and pointless Middle Eastern wars.

I really like this version of Robin, and it prove suitable epic in scale, and providing a satisfying narrative. Overall, this is well worth seeing.

Clash of the Titans (2010)

The new Clash of the Titans, proves to be a tolerable films, mainly due to Gemma Atherton, being incredibly hot. Now, I don't expect much from these films, but despite being fairly long, the whole thing flew by, and not in a good way. Things just seemed to happen, and I really couldn't care less about the characters. They were boring and annoying most of the time.

Clash of the Titans doesn't really pull of the ancient action movie epic at all. In fact if fails pretty badly, and while watchable, there are much better things out there to go see.

Kick Ass

Based on the Mark Millar and John Romita Jnr comic book of the same name. Kick Ass closely follows the comics, albeit with some notable changes.

So, basically the story revolves around a go, who decides, to dress up in a costume and fight crime. He has no super powers or anything, just an ordinary guy. So Kick Ass first foray into crime fighting does not go very well. He does eventually improve, and run into the films other cast, most notably Big Daddy, and the foul mouthed tyke Hit Girl.

The story really shines, the whole is ridiculous, but it works nonetheless, and gives us a unique take on the super hero movie genre, that is one part love letter, and another part send up.

Overall, Kick Ass is a great movie, and I highly recommend you go and see it.

The Crazies

A remake of the Geogre Romero classic, the Crazies is about a town, who are exposed to someting that drives them nuts.

Its start Timothy Olyphant (who plays the town sheriff), and Radha Mitchell (his wife the local GP), who are trying to escape the town filled with the titular Crazies, and the US military trying to contain them.

The film is excellent, and keeps it original anti-war message, and is well worht seeing.

Daybreakers

I don't want to spoil to much on ths one, so will keep this brief.

Daybreakers is a fantastic example of world building. Basically, in Daybreakers the world is mostly vampires, and a great deal of taught goes into how that would work. Stuff like underground walkways, to modder cars to allow vampires to drive in the sun light. Some really well taught out stuff.

The movie also features a great story, and some great performances. Well worth seeing.

The Lovely Bones

This feels like something of a pallet cleanser for Pete Jackson, after the Lord of the Rings, and King Kong, and his next epics.

The Lovely Bones follows a young girl Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan), who is murdered. The film follwers her in, I guess you could call it a limbo of sorts, but it more of a personal heaven waiting place. She watches those whom she left behind, and we see how her family copes with there loss, and we get to see what her killer is up to.

The film is certainly an interesting one, that tackles the families loss, as well as the Susie's own loss of her life. While the movie has its issue, its definetly worth seeing, as Jackson stuff is always good.

Perriers Bounty

The film follows Michael Mc Crea (Cillian Murphy), whose owes money to the titular gangster Perrier (Brendan Gleeson), and Perrier sends round a couple of leg breakers, to warn him if he doesn't pay the money, they will break a couple of bones. We also meet his neighbour Brenda (Jodie Whittaker), and Michaels Dad (Jim Broadbent), who get mixed up in the whole mess. I don't want to say anything else about the plot as I don't want to spoil it.

The film is set in Dublin for the most part, and it was kinda cool to see place I know on the big screen.

Anyway, the movie is good, and worth seeing.

The Blind Side

The film stars Sandra Bullock who plays a Woman who helps a kid (played by Quinton Aaron), who has no where to go, by taking him into her home. Its based on a true story, and its one of those heart warming stories, which just so happens to be very good. Bullock certainly deserved her Oscar for ther role in this film.

Quinton Aaron, who played the main character Michael Oher, also puts in a great performance.

Well worth seeing.

The Princess and the Frog

Disney makes its return to traditional animation, and does a fantastic job while there at it.

The film turns the traditional fairy tale on its ahead, with an excellent twist. Where the Girl kisses the Frog, but instead of the Frog becoming a Prince, the girl becomes a frog, and crazyness ensues.

The Princess and the Frog, is enjoyable for both the kids and adults and is well worth seeing.

My Name is Khan

Shah Rukh Khans plays a Muslim man with Aspergers syndrome (it is related to Authism, but not as severe I think), who moves to America, and the film follows his life there both before and after 9/11.

I don't want to give too much away, but Shah Rukh Khan performance is fantastic in this, as I have a cousin, who has the same condition and his performane accurately captured a person who has apergers.

The film follows Rizvan Khan (played by Shah Rukh) as he find love in America and creates a family and a life for himself, which all fall apart in the wake of 9/11, as he and his family are subjected to Anti-Muslim bigotry.

The movie is certainly excellent and Shah Rukh's perfomance while the stand out, doesn't over shadow his co-star's Kajol, who also puts a fantastic performance as his wife, and the pair to share a great chemistry on screen.

Anyway, the film is excellent and well worth seeing.

Director James Cameron's latest and greatest does not disappoint.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**
Firstly, I have to say the tech behind this film is rather fantastic. The director James Cameron, invented an enitrely new 3D film making rig to make this film, which gives the director a great deal of control over the CG, via pre-vis equipment and other great advances.

Now, onto the most important part of a film, the story. The story does contain elemensts of stuff you have seen before, but I personally I loved it nonetheless. The movie is very much an event, and is spectacular to behold, and to see Jake Sully, first encounter the Nabi, and to eventually join them is a spectaculr adventure, that everyone should see.

The Wolfman (2010)

I have to say, that considering the problems this film had, when it was getting made, that it was far better than I ever taught it would be.

So, the Wolfman is basically a remake of the original, which I have never seen, so I won't be comment on the difference with the new one.

The film does a lot of things right, the cast is good, with the exception of Anothony Hopkins, who seems to be phoning in this performance. The effects used for the transformation was excellent, and the make up which was used for the werewolf otherwise, was really good as well.

Now, the film is enjoyable Monstor flick. It does lack something in the direction, which considering the films problems make sense.

Solomon Kane

Based on the novels by Robert E. Howard (you may know him as the guy who created Conan), Solomon Kane is his other lesser know creation (to me in anyways).

*Spoilers Ahead*

I don't know anything about the novels or anything, but the film was a enjoyable action film. The story follows Solomon Kane, who was a pirate (at least I think he was) and in the process of sacking a city in North Africa, he encounters the Grim Reaper, who is there to collect his soul, but Solomon claims he made no deal with the devil. Now that is something that should have been clearer, as it seem that Solomon's father sold his soul to save his brother. Well at least I think he did, but I am not too sure. Now, maybe I was slow, and just didn't get it, but I think they needed to be a bit clearer on the whole soul thing.

Now, otherwise the film is a pretty good action film. Solomon Kane, fights the bad guys and kickes a lot of butt, and we get a satisfying ending, but it really needed to be clearer on some story elements.

Supernatural Season 5 Episode 1

The last time we left out heroes, Lucifer (the Devil) was about to rise, after being inadvertently being freed by Sam, and there in big trouble and then there whisked away to safety and appear on a plane all of a sudden. They then go looking for Cass, and discover he has been killed, and things just seem to get worse from there, when Meg (pictured above) shows up.

An excellent first episode, where we are introduced to another mystery, as to who exactly saved the guys from Lucifer and who brought back Cass to life, my guess is that God has finally decided to intervene, but it could be something else of course.

An great start to the new season, and very much looking forward to how things pan out.

Distict 9

This past summer featured a lot of big Sci-Fi films, many of which were mostly disappointing (with the exception of J.J Abrams Star Trek), but we have also gotten films like excellent lower budget (but still high quality)fare like Moon and now after Summer we have gotten District 9, brought to us by South African director Neill Blomkamp (who was going to direct Halo at one point, before it fell a part).

Now, the theme here is clearly reflecting on apartheid, only instead of the indigenous South African populace being oppressed we have Aliens who ship is floating above Johannesburg. So thats the basic theme, and it certainly an interesting take using Aliens.

The film starts, when the South African government hire's a Multi-national to remove millions of alien refugees (referred to by the derogatory term "Prawns") and things kick off from there. I won't say much else, as I don't want to spoil anything else.

Suffice to say that things soon kick off and we get some amazing action as well as thoughtful Sci-fi.

The film is in my opinion a classic and well worth seeing, and is very much recommended.

(500) Days of Summer

(500) Days of Summer stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the lovely Zooey Deschanel in this Rom com, well it isn't your average Rom com and does a role reversal with Gordon-Levitt's character. So basically the whole Boy meets Girl paradigm is turned on its head, when compared to most Hollywood films.

The story is told in a disjointed manner, jumping back in forth between various stages of there relationship. This manner of telling the story is used to great effect and leads to many laugh out loud moments.

There is also a narrator, who reminded me a bit of the one from Pushing Daisies, in the way that the narration was done.

Both Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel have great chemistry and put in great performances.

Overall, this is a excellent movie and is highly recommended.

Aliens in the Attic

A decent enough Rom-com starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Its fairly predictable and is saved by its likable leads. Worth while for fans of the genre.

The Hurt Locker

The movie follows a US Army bomb disposal team in Iraq. The story is told via a series of vignettes more or less of bomb disarmament missions, and it doesn't really take a political stance on the war either way and just follows these soldiers on the various missions.

The film illustrates starkly the separation between the occupier and occupied. This is best illustrated with language, with American soldiers often shouting at the local's in English and of course they don't understand, which leads to tense situations.

The movie is well worth seeing, and shows the horror of war very well.

Moon

Starring Sam Rockewell, as a man who is working alone on the Moon to harvest Helium 3 fuel. The film is a dark and brilliant Science Fiction film. I won't say too much, as I don't want to spoil anything. Suffice to say this is the best Science Fiction film, that I have seen this year so far. This film is very highly recommended.

Mesrine: Killer Instinct

Inglorious Basterds

Tarantino's latest has a lot going for it, but it also doesn't.

The movie is split into 2 basically, one story follows the titular heroes the Basterds and a young Jewish Woman Shoshanna who's family was murdered by the Nazi's.

The Basterds basically come of as incompetent and its hard to believe them being such a terror to the Nazi's sometimes. Now I don't expect realism or anything, but we only ever get glimpse's of the Basterd's being really bad ass, and a lot of the other times they seems to be kinda rubbish at what they do.

Now Shoshanna's story is a lot better, at the start there is a excellent scene where a Nazi officers is questioning a man who is hiding her parents and we get to see the terrible events where her family is murdered and we get more insight into her desire for vengeance, which is picked up later, when she is running a cinema and it is chosen by chance to host a big Nazi premiere, giving her a chance at vengance.

The film was overall enjoyable, even with its faults and is especially worth seeing if you like Tarantino's stuff.

I have to say that this was actually surprisingly good. Sure Sienna Miller being smoking hot helped a lot, but for a Summer block buster action flick, this was decent. In fact it was superior to Transformers 2.

Now, I am no G.I. Joe fan, so I am not sure if this was respectful of the cartoons or anything. It did serve a lot of decent action and was entertaining.

Broken Embraces

The movie is told via flash backs to recount what happened in the past. The movie is worth a look.

A Perfect Getaway

A excellent thriller set on a remote Hawaiian island, where a just married couple are on a honey moon adventure.

I won't spoil anything here, but the movie is fantastic and well worth seeing.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

So, this is basically a big Michael Bay spectacular. Things explode left right and centre, and Megan Fox is smoking hot. That is basically everything you get from the new Transformers.

One thing is that the US military, had far too big a role. I want to see the robots fight and not to see how much Michael Bays love the US military damnit!!!

So, if you liked the first film, you will like this too. Its a good action flick, with barely there plot and thats about it.

"Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid" By Jimmy Carter

Well, firstly after reading this book, all the controversy over it, is made doubly nonsensical after reading.

Its basically a factual take on the situation. Its sober, calm and reasoned and incredibly fair to both sides of the conflict. Carter basically doesn't pull any punches, when it comes to either side, and basically apologists of Israel aren't used to people actually calling Israel on there bull shit.

The book gives the history of the situation, presents the why of the conflict and potential solutions.

The book is highly recommended reading, if you want to learn more about the conflict.

The Hangover

The execution and the performances are what really make this film. It is highly recommended and very funny. Well worth seeing.

Terminator: Salvation

There was a lot of potential to this film, but ultimately it didn't live up to its potential.

Firstly, the start is really excellent, the helicopter crash scene is really well done. From here however, we basically go from action scene to action scene and there is very little reason to care about the other characters, and there is the whole aspect of some people not buying to Connor's being the saviour of humanity, which is mentioned at the start, but is barely touched on in the film.

If the film gave us more reason to care about the characters, who aren't John Connor or Kyle Reese, who care about due to earlier films. We see Connor's pregnant wife, but we know nothing about there relationship for example.

There is also the whole messiah aspect, which really could have been interesting, but is only barely touched on. We didn't really get to see what it meant for the resistance.

Now, onto Marcus, who's story was very interesting, but it was underdeveloped. The script really need more work imho.

Now the performances were excellent, the special effects were also top notch, especially the CGI Arnold.

So, ultimately a interesting movie, that didn't quite live up to it potential.

It basically tells the story of a huge Man U fan, who's life starts to fall apart and as a coping mechanism, conjours up Eric Cantona as a personal advisor of sorts.

The story and the performances are both fantastic and this is well worth seeing.

The fate of Iran rested last night in a grubby north Tehran highway interchange called Vanak Square where – after days of violence – supporters of the official President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at last confronted the screaming, angry Iranians who have decided that Mirhossein Mousavi should be the president of their country. Unbelievably – and I am a witness because I stood beside them – just 400 Iranian special forces police were keeping these two armies apart. There were stones and tear gas but for the first time in this epic crisis the cops promised to protect both sides.

"Please, please, keep the Basiji from us," one middle-aged lady pleaded with a special forces officer in flak jacket and helmet as the Islamic Republic's thug-like militia appeared in their camouflage trousers and purity-white shirts only a few metres away. The cop smiled at her. "With God's help," he said. Two other policemen were lifted shoulder-high. "Tashakor, tashakor," – "thank you, thank you" – the crowd roared at them.

This was phenomenal. The armed special forces of the Islamic Republic, hitherto always allies of the Basiji, were prepared for once, it seemed, to protect all Iranians, not just Ahmadinejad's henchmen. The precedent for this sudden neutrality is known to everyone – it was when the Shah's army refused to fire on the millions of demonstrators demanding his overthrow in 1979.

Drag Me To Hell

Sam Raimi makes his triumphant return to the horror genre. Starring the lovely Alison Lohman, the story is about a bank loan manager, who has been cursed after refusing a old woman's request for a loan extension.

The film is nothing short of brilliant and puts the vast majority of other recent horror films to shame. We are given a fantastic blend of scares, and gross out comedy.

If you like Sam Raimi's past efforts, or just good horror films, then you will love this. This film is highly recommended.

US President's Speech to the "Muslim World"

President Obama Addresses Muslim World in Cairo

Well, an interesting speech to be sure. There is a lot to agree with here and a lot to disagree with.

Firstly, there is no "Muslim World" and no place called Islam. To try and address 1 billion people, who have some vague similarities due to a common religion. How exactly anyone can address 1 billion people is beyond me, take for example, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, those 2 countries could not be more different. However, it is best to put this aside and look at the content of the speech.

The first part of his speech is about violent extremism (more or less, there is other stuff mixed in there). While, I agree that the US has every right to defend themselves by going into Afghanistan, because of 9/11, but there tactics there have been pretty counter productive, especially due to the Iraq invasion. If the US can get it act together there, maybe then can actually effect a positive change. Giving aid to Pakistan to build schools and hospitals, and aid to develop Afghanistan is a step in the right direction.

My main issue with what Obama says here is that he seems to see Iraq as a simple mistake, which I find absurd. The US war against Iraq was a War of aggression, which is considered the supreme international crime and he even tries to excuse it by saying that the Iraqi's are better without Saddam, which is especially grating, as he has a huge problem with those who try and make excuses for 9/11. The US murdered 1000's in there war of aggression, and the criminals behind it, are still not behind bars and probably never will be.

Then, the 2nd major part is about Israel/Palestine. Firstly, I reject the Israeli narrative he presents. It is quite simple false. I know that Jews suffered what is perhaps the greatest crime in history, when Nazi Germany exterminated 6 million Jews, but to suggest this made it ok to establish a Jewish state in Palestine, against the wishes of indigenous population of Palestine is repugnant. What, was done to Jews by Europeans, did not give Zionists the right to go to Palestine to set up there own country and ethnically cleanse the indigenous population. Now, of course Israel is a reality and it should be excepted as such, but then so should the reality that its creation was a crime against the Palestinian people and that the Palestinian deserve justice for what was done to them.

Also, he make a good point about Holocaust denial, but the Israeli's have themselves denied the existence of the Palestinian people and more recently Israel approved a draft law to ban commemoration of the Nakba (the ethnic cleansing in 1948 by Zionists of between 700,000 and 900,000 Palestinians) by the Palestinians who still remain in Israel. It is absurd to condemn one sides denialism and not even mention the other groups denialism.

While, I agree with his comments about Palestinian violence against Israel, he seems to ignore Israel much greater violence against the Palestinians. The recent murderous rampage in Gaza, by the IDF, where they used weapons such as white phosphorous against civilians. While the siege in Gaza was briefly mentioned, it was however not condemned in anyway nearly as strong terms as his condemnation of Palestinian violence.

Now, he is right that both sides need recognize each other rights and that all involved will need to take steps to achieve peace, but the simple fact is that the US has enabled Israeli violence and the fact that Obama did not acknowledge this is disappointing. Will we actually see him take some concrete steps to reign Israel in? I mean something beyond mere words? If he expects the Arab states to use there influence to reign in the Palestinians, the US should be prepared to do the same with Israel.

As for his position on Iran's nuclear program. Personally, I can't take the US seriously here. We are talking about a country with more Nuclear weapons than anyone else and the only country to actually use them during war.

As for the parts, on Democracy, Womens Rights, Economic development and religious freedom, there isn't much to say, as I basically agree with everything said in those parts of the speech. So there isn't anything to discuss really. I do think he could have been more forceful about democracy, but considering the location of the speech, I could see why it wasn't done.

Ultimately the speech is interesting and welcome change from Bush, but words alone don't mean a whole lot and hopefully they will be back up by actions.

Coraline (3d)

Coraline is an animated film, based on the Neil Gaiman childrens book of the same name. Its a story of a little girl who finds another world via a magic door she finds in her house. Ok, so the film is way better than my description. Coraline is a great movie, its has the same level of quality as Pixar's efforts, which is high praise for it.

I saw this in 3d, which was good, but it wasn't really needed, as it didn't add much to the experience.

Overall, well worth seeing.

Infamous (Demo - PS3)

Infamous will be out over here on Friday, but in the meantime the demo is available and I gave it a try over the weekend.

The game plays as a bit of a cross between Assassins Creed and Crackdown. You play as a Super Human with electrical powers, in a open world city.

The games controls are fantastic and the titles hero Cole, is adept at climbing almost any surface. Then there are shooting controls, which are also smooth. Controlling Cole is a joy.

Then there is all the wacky fun you can have using your powers in the city and going around causing random mayhem.

The demo is excellent and well worth a download.

Terminator (Blu-ray)

Not watched this film in years and I was surprised to find that it has aged remarkably well. The Blu-ray make this film look as well as it is ever going to be, especially considering its age.

I don't think there is any need describe what Terminator is about. I would hope most people would know whats it about. If you don't go rent it, and you won't be disappointed.

So anyway, the film is fantastic and looks great in Blu-ray. Well worth a look, especially with the new Terminator movie coming out soon.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon

An excellent book about a fictional take on the early days of American Super hero comics. The story follows the creators of the character "The Escapist" and there various trials and tribulations.

The story provides an insight into the early days of super hero comics, albeit via fictional prism. Still, the world that the author paints is incredibly vivid and the reader can very much see the world at the time.

This is an excellent novel and is highly recommenced, especially if you have any interests in comics at all.

Star Trek

J.J. Abrams new Star Trek is nothing short of completely fantastic. It breathes new life into what was a dieing franchise.

The casting was also inspired, especially Karl Urban who played Bones McCoy.

Then there is the story, which provided an excellent reason for why everything is different and provides a great adventure for the new crew. This is the best summer block buster in a long time. I can't recommend this movie highly enough. Go see it, you won't be disappointed.

The game may be a simple brawler, but its far far better than the film of the same name.

The game is incredibly gorey, basically the way that the Wolverine film should have been. You can rip your enemies apart into a blood splattered mess with ease. While, the game has its fair share of bugs, they don't detracts from the game play much.

Overall, the game is great fun and isn't revolutionary or anything, but its well worth playing.

Rogen character is basically mentally ill and wanders around living in a deluded fantasy world. Then there is also the now infamous date rape scene, which is horribly unfunny and if you want to know more, you can read more about it elsewhere.

Don't bother seeing this one. It isn't very good at all.

Shifty is an excellent independent film starring Riz Ahmed and Daniel Mays. Its about a guy returning to his home town and finding that his mate is a drug dealer and that a lot of other things have changed.

The friendship between the 2 leads is what really makes this film. They both give excellent performances.

The film is well worth seeing.

Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog

Starring Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) as the titular character Dr. Horrible. Joss Whedon's web musical is really nothing short of fantastic. The songs are infectious and they will be stuck in your head all day.

NPH plays a super villain called Dr. Horrible who wants to join the "Evil League of Evil", and he needs to impress them with spectacular crimes, but his arch enemy Captain Hammer played by Nathan Fillion keeps foiling his plans and kicking his ass. Dr. Horrible also has a love interest played the Felicia Day.

Anyway, this is well worth seeing and I couldn't recommend it any more highly.

A disappointing Sci-fi comedy. The trailer for this was really good, but sadly the movie didn't live up to it.

There is noting especially terrible about this film. It just isn't very funny. There are some funny moments, but those mostly come from the gorgeous Anna Faris. There is also the ending which I taught was kinda crap.

Wouldn't bother seeing this, as you will only be disappointed.

The Israeli Peace Now group, which monitors settlement growth, said it had obtained plans drawn up by experts that the interior ministry had commissioned which call for expanding the sprawling Maale Adumim settlement near Jerusalem southward by 1200 hectares, placing what is now the separate smaller settlement of Kedar within Maale Adumim's boundaries.

The expansion is on a highly sensitive piece of real estate that both sides see as holding the key to whether the Palestinians will have a viable state with their own corridor between the north and south parts of the West Bank.

The use of torture by the US has proved so counter-productive that it may have led to the death of as many US soldiers as civilians killed in 9/11, says the leader of a crack US interrogation team in Iraq.

"The reason why foreign fighters joined al-Qa'ida in Iraq was overwhelmingly because of abuses at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib and not Islamic ideology," says Major Matthew Alexander, who personally conducted 300 interrogations of prisoners in Iraq. It was the team led by Major Alexander [a named assumed for security reasons] that obtained the information that led to the US military being able to locate Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of al-Qa'ida in Iraq. Zarqawi was then killed by bombs dropped by two US aircraft on the farm where he was hiding outside Baghdad on 7 June 2006. Major Alexander said that he learnt where Zarqawi was during a six-hour interrogation of a prisoner with whom he established relations of trust.

Pakistan's Taliban "Peace Deal" seems to be faltering

Pakistani security forces have clashed with Taleban militants in the troubled north-west of the country, close to the Swat Valley.

A militant commander was among a number of militants killed in gun battles in the Lower Dir district of North West Frontier Province, the military said.

A member of the security forces was also killed when a convoy of troops passed through the area.

The peace deal seems likely to fall apart as it stands. Especially after the Taliban tried to expand into a province neighboring the Swat valley. The above military action would seem to suggest that things are going down hill.

While, a lot of people on the west have been critical of Pakistan's attempt at peace with the militants, but I think it is far better to try and make peace. Now this attempt has very clearly failed and action should be taken against the militants. The Pakistani government needs to realize that there attempts of peace have failed.

Also, there was an interesting post on Juan Cole's Informed Comment blog, concerning Pakistan and whether or not it is on the verge of collapse as some in the west are suggesting, which is something he disagree's with. You can read his post here:

Demolitions build Jerusalem tension

Five young children cling to their mother. All of them are crying. This morning, without warning, Israeli bulldozers came to destroy their home in Jabal Mukabar area of East Jerusalem.

Speaking amongst the mangled remains of her house, Samia Ihdaidoon says she was still sleeping when Israel's police arrived.

"They came pounding on the doors and climbed in through the bedroom window as if it was a raid. They said I had five minutes to put on my scarf and collect our valuables, then I had to get out. It's a shock for the children. Look at their faces. I'm in despair."

Israel says the Ihdaidoon's house was demolished because it was built illegally.
Angry neighbours congregate in the rubble.

Osama Zahaika told us Israel makes it almost impossible for Palestinians to get building permits in East Jerusalem.

"As a Palestinian I know why they do it. Israel doesn't want us here. My house, most of the Palestinian houses in East Jerusalem are illegal. Not granting us construction permission, demolishing our houses. It's a form of quiet transfer," Mr Zahaika says.

"People like to talk of human rights. Where are human rights here? If you destroy a family home in winter, it's cold. In summer, it's hot. At the same time Israelis can build and live in East Jerusalem without being disturbed. Is it one rule for us, one rule for the Jews, the Israelis?"

As can be seen in the above story, house demolitions in occupied East Jerusalem continue. The demolitions are illegal under international law as East Jerusalem is occupied territory.

Now, some may think my title above is hyperbole, but I would of course disagree with this. Basically, the demolitions are being used to try and get the Palestinians to leave, so that Israel can take the land for the sole use of its Jewish populace. This is ethnic cleansing, albeit in a slow and steady fashion, but ethnic cleansing nonetheless.

A Swedish language film directed by Tomas Alfredson. This is the best vampire film, that I have seen in a long time.

The film is about a vampire who was turned when they were about 12 years old and a young boy who she befriends. The performances are excellent and visuals are top notch. The film also has atmosphere by the bucket loads, which is very important for a horror film. Don't let the subtitles put you off, this film is well worth seeing and you won't be disappointed.

Alex Proyas's latest film sadly doesn't live up to it potential. Its stars Nicholas Cage and Rose Byrne.

The films starts out really well, with a suitably creepy beginning, with the young girls who is hearing voices and scrawling a bunch of numbers (which predict future disasters) on a sheet to be put in a time capsule.

From here things kinda falter, there are still some brilliant scenes, such as the plane crash, but it doesn't really work.

Basically Rudd's characters, has always been a "girl friend guy" and doesn't have any close male friends and he popped the question to his Girl friend and needs to make some male friends.

So basically he goes on a friend hunt with funny results, before be-friending Jason Segel character, whom he hits it off with and of course craziness ensues.

Anyway, this is a excellent film and well worth a look.

Excellent film this. Clint Eastwood, stars and directs in this.

The film is about a man who has Hmong (probably spelled that very wrong) neighbors, who he hates as he is racist. After an attempted attack on these neighbors, he come to the rescue (albeit unintentionally). After that he gets to know his neighbors and starts to moderate his views.

This is an excellent film and well worth a look.

Dozens of delegates have walked out of a speech by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, at a United Nations anti-racism conference in Geneva after he described Israel as a "racist government".
Al Jazeera's correspondent at the summit argues that the event, staged to show the UN was united in the fight against racism and injustice, has merely exposed deep divisions.

The conference had began with a show and a no-show - a dance performance to greet the delegates, and empty seats for the nations who'd decided to boycott the summit.

They were angry at what they saw as the conference's early anti-Israeli tone and the invite to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's president, as the summit's controversial keynote speaker.

So basically a bunch of Western states act like little cry babies and either don't show up for the conference or walk out when Ahmadinejad criticized Israel (he did not deny the Holocaust in this speech to the best of my knowledge). Basically, they walked out due to a accurate (to be fair, he did pour on the hyperbole a bit, but he is hardly unique in that regard) charge of Zionism being a racist ideology, which it most certainly is. One need look no further than the recent mass murder in Gaza by Israel. Its laughable for for any to somehow suggest Zionism isn't racist, as since the foundation of the state, Israel has treated the Palestinians like crap, as evidenced by the ethnic cleansing the state engaged in its formation.

Now, of course Ahmadinejad is a big hypocrite as his own countries treatment of minorities is hardly much better, but that doesn't make what he said wrong, and I find it pathetic that the Western states couldn't even try and come up with a counter argument. Of course, they probably didn't bother as it would be an argument that they would lose.

Of course, the Western support for Israel's Apartheid should surprise no one, many of the same states happily supported Apartheid South Africa, until it became to unpopular to do so. Also, there hardly in a morally superior position considering a lot of those who walked out, were directly involved in the war of aggression against Iraq, so are massive hypocrites themselves.

Ultimately, this is a victory for Ahmadinejad, as this will play well for him in elections in Iran (yeah, they have elections, just because the US calls someone a dictator doesn't make it so) and the fact that the Western states were unable to provide any kind of coherent counter argument pretty much gives him a victory.

Just finished the first season on DVD. Its kind of a cross between Buffy and X-files. Its basically 2 brothers fighting all the crap that goes bump in the night, vampires, ghosts, and the like.

The shows does become a bit monster of the week sometimes, but there is a over arching plot to the whole thing that ties it all together.

Well worth watching if you liked stuff like Buffy or X-files.

Damages is legal drama starring Glenn Close, Ted Danson, Rose Byrne and Tate Donovan. The story revolves around a young Woman Ellen Parson (Rose Byrne) who joins a law firm , who specialize in class actions suits. Her first case is a class action suit against billionaire Arthur Frobisher, being brought by his former employees.

I won't go into too much detail, as I don't want to spoil the show, but it is an excellent legal drama. While there is little or no time in actual court, the show is riveting and the twist and turns are brilliant.

The show is highly recommended viewing.

Also season 2 has just started in the US and will be on RTE soon.

So basically they try to run away from a ticket and have to do community service. They have to basically be "Big Brothers" to some kids and wackiness ensues from there.

This is a really funny movie and it has its touching moments. This is well worth a look.

Slumdog Millionaire

There has been a lot of buzz around Danny Boyle's latest film and its well deserved.

Starring Dev Patel (from Skins) as a "Slumdog", living in the slums of Mumbai. His character Jamal goes on the Indian version, of who wants to be a Millionaire, where he is just 1 question away from the prize and the police arrest him, under suspicion of cheating, as they can't believe a "Slumdog" could get all the answers. So he is tortured and eventually he tells them how he knows the answers, by recounting the story of his life.

Now the story isn't about the money, its a love story and I won't say anymore, as I don't want to spoil the story, but suffice to say that the story of Jamal is very interesting and the love story is really well done.

This movie will probably be one of the best of the year and you really should see this if you in anyway like films at all. It really is excellent.

Sex Drive

There is nothing here you haven't seen before, but it has some excellent jokes.

Baz Lurhmann;s latest is beautifully shot old style Hollywood epic. The movie really takes full advantage of its setting and provides some amazing vistas.

Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are excellent in this and the characters go through a journey during this.

This movie is well worth a look.

Yes Man

An excellent comedy starring Jim Carrey and the lovely Zooey Deschanel.

The movie revolves around Carrey's character who goes to a self help seminar, where it teaches him to say "Yes" to everything. This sets up everything up for all the fun and games that follow.

There are some excellent jokes in this and movie even manages to say something semi-profound, while making you laugh.

This is film is highly recommended.

Body of Lies

Ridley Scott's latest film, star Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

This is another movie about fighting terrorists in the Middle East, but the movie doesn't shy away from the complexity of the situation, which is rare for movie of this kind, which are rather superficial.

While, the story is the same old catch the terrorist one, it is very well done and as I mentioned they don't shy away from the complexity of the situation.

Also DiCaprio and Crowe both excel in there roles in this.

Miracle at St Anna

An excellent movie from director Spike Lee. The opening flash back sequence is a definite high light, I won't go into detail about it, but it is great.

The movie revolves a black regiment during WW2 as they are invading Italy. There is also a murder mystery involved to boot as well.

The movie really is all round very well done and is well worth seeing.

Eagle Eye

Quarantine

Starring the lovely Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter, Exorcism of Emily Rose), in this excellent Zombie flick, which is a remake of the Spanish film REC (will throw up a review of that here soon).

The movie is about a reporter who is following around some fire men for a segment. They are called away to an apartment building and then are quarantined and are talking by Zombies.

I taught this was an excellent Zombie movie. The setting make things claustrophobic and offer a few scares as well. Well worth a look if you like Zombie movies.

Waltz with Bashir

An excellent movie that recounts a former Israeli soldiers time during Israel first invasion of Lebanon. The story revolves around him trying to remember his time and more exactly to remember the event of the notorious Sabra and Shatilia massacres.

The movie sheds light on the culpability of the IDF in the genocide of 2000 Palestinian civilians, at the hands of there Christian Phalangist allies.

The films animated style actually works very well and is used up till the very end. The music is also haunting and appropriate foe the subject matter.

Waltz with Bashir is an excellent film and is well worth seeing, even if you have no interest in the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.

I taught it was pretty good movie and had a great noir style to it. Also, it had Mila Kunis in it, which was a added bonus.

Basically, a young couple moves in next door to Jacksons character and he takes an instant dislike to them and then things deteriorate from there.

I have to say, I was very surprised to find out that this was based on a true story, as it is so unbelievable. Basically a Mothers child is taken and the police find him and it isn't really her son, but the insist that he is in anyways.

The movie is really excellent. The acting by all involved is very well done, but a special mention has to go out to Angelina Jolie, who was especially good.

Changeling is an excellent movie and is highly recommended.

A group of academics and Lawyers have sent a letter to the Times of London on Sunday, calling the current war on Gaza a war crime. Its present a clear refutation of the nonsense presented to defend the criminality of the slaughter against the Palestinians.

Anyway here is the letter:

Israel’s bombardment of Gaza is not self-defence – it’s a war crime

ISRAEL has sought to justify its military attacks on Gaza by stating that it amounts to an act of “self-defence” as recognised by Article 51, United Nations Charter. We categorically reject this contention.

The rocket attacks on Israel by Hamas deplorable as they are, do not, in terms of scale and effect amount to an armed attack entitling Israel to rely on self-defence. Under international law self-defence is an act of last resort and is subject to the customary rules of proportionality and necessity.

The killing of almost 800 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and more than 3,000 injuries, accompanied by the destruction of schools, mosques, houses, UN compounds and government buildings, which Israel has a responsibility to protect under the Fourth Geneva Convention, is not commensurate to the deaths caused by Hamas rocket fire.

For 18 months Israel had imposed an unlawful blockade on the coastal strip that brought Gazan society to the brink of collapse. In the three years after Israel’s redeployment from Gaza, 11 Israelis were killed by rocket fire. And yet in 2005-8, according to the UN, the Israeli army killed about 1,250 Palestinians in Gaza, including 222 children. Throughout this time the Gaza Strip remained occupied territory under international law because Israel maintained effective control over it.

Israel’s actions amount to aggression, not self-defence, not least because its assault on Gaza was unnecessary. Israel could have agreed to renew the truce with Hamas. Instead it killed 225 Palestinians on the first day of its attack. As things stand, its invasion and bombardment of Gaza amounts to collective punishment of Gaza’s 1.5m inhabitants contrary to international humanitarian and human rights law. In addition, the blockade of humanitarian relief, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and preventing access to basic necessities such as food and fuel, are prima facie war crimes.

We condemn the firing of rockets by Hamas into Israel and suicide bombings which are also contrary to international humanitarian law and are war crimes. Israel has a right to take reasonable and proportionate means to protect its civilian population from such attacks. However, the manner and scale of its operations in Gaza amount to an act of aggression and is contrary to international law, notwithstanding the rocket attacks by Hamas.
